Wendy & Lisa - Amazing

When you listen to Prince’s music, you can’t help but get curious about the story of his life.

Prince’s Purple Rain album in particular makes you want to know more about the band members around him. And one track you simply can’t miss is Computer Blue.

Computer Blue

I used to think the “Lisa” in this song was referring to the Apple Macintosh. Turns out Lisa is actually a band member. In an IT guy’s brain, Computer + Lisa = Apple lol

After the massive success of Purple Rain, Prince dissolved the band. Wendy and Lisa went off on their own and this ended up being their first album together as a duo. Prince had begged them to stay, and was apparently heartbroken when they left. Listening to their unmistakably original style, you kind of get why he felt that way.

Honeymoon Express

It made me wonder if I’ve mostly been listening to (traditionally defined) male artists all along. Especially compared to Prince’s track, there’s something here that’s hard to put into words. No desperation, no need to prove anything, no chip on the shoulder.

Waterfall

Who in pop music could put out something this pure on a theme like water? (setting aside the question of what “pure” even means for a second… haha) And yet the music flows so freely, so effortlessly, like it’s just playing around in the details. It feels like an AI with no attachment to the concept of “self” borrowed a human body for a little while, just to enjoy some music.
